Rounding Out 2014

It has been an exciting autumn so far for Show Off!, and we are very much looking forward to this year's two remaining nights.

On Halloween, a number of people attended in costume, representing characters from musicals spanning several decades. And earlier this month, Nic Gibney came back to host Show Off! for the first time in many months, treating us to a delightful night.

The next two nights promise to be a lot of fun as well. On 28 November (this Friday), Matthew Gent will be back with us, with Nathan Martin at the piano. On 12 November, Toby Hine will be hosting, again with Nathan Martin. We are very much looking forward to both of these nights.

The Friday night falling two weeks after 12 December is Boxing Day, when we will not have a show. However, we plan to return two weeks later, on 9 January. That date, and the other dates for the first half of 2015, will be posted on our calendar page as soon as our winter and spring schedules are confirmed.

Halloween!

Nathan and AlexThis year, the 31st of October is a Show Off! night. We therefore thought that it would be a good idea to bring a bit of Halloween to Show Off! Nothing major is going to change: the focus will still very much be on showtunes, and the format will still be the same. However, we would encourage everyone to join us in dressing up as a figure from the world of musical theatre and/or singing a song that evokes the spirit of Halloween. (Both of these suggestions are deliberately open to interpretation!)

Alex Young will be hosting on Halloween, with Show Off! MD Nathan Martin at the piano. (Alex and Nathan are pictured here at the interval of Show Off! on the 3rd of October.) We hope that you will join us for what promises to be a fun night.

Autumn at Show Off!

Show Off! is continuing fortnightly on Friday nights through 12 December 2014. It will not take place on Friday 26 December (Boxing Day).

We have an exciting line-up in the coming weeks. Alex Young will be hosting again on Friday 3 October, with Show Off! MD Nathan Martin at the piano. Ben Stock will be back two weeks later, with James Beal at the piano. And since Halloween is a Show Off! night this year, we plan to recognise that fact while still very much staying in musical theatre mode:) More details of our Halloween plans will follow shortly.

Below are photos from the last two nights of Show Off!: Alex Young singing a duet with Toby Hine with Nathan Martin at the piano, and Ben Stock with James Beal at the end of a busy night.

Tributes to Elaine Stritch

Matthew Gent and Nathan MartinOn Friday, Show Off! paid tribute to the legendary Elaine Stritch, who died on 17 July.

Host Matthew Gent said a few words about the impact that Ms Stritch had on musical theatre, and led the crowd in an energetic singalong of The Ladies Who Lunch. Others in attendance also acknowledged Ms Stritch in different ways over the course of the evening.

Our Fourth Anniversary

On Friday 7 March 2014, Show Off! celebrated its fourth anniversary. Veteran Show Off! host Matthew Gent was at the helm for the night, with Show Off! MD Nathan Martin at the piano, but hosts Sarah Lark and Ben Stock also joined in, and the crowd was treated to great performances from all three hosts. There was also cake!

It was great to have many Show Off! stalwarts present to celebrate with us, along with many others including several enthusiastic first-timers. It was a really fun night.

And we are very excited that we are now officially in our fifth year!
